Meet the Judge - Nancy Newhard
In the late 1970s, Nancy decided to make the life-changing decisions to go back to college. She earned a master’s degree from Radford College (now University) in Art Education, then unexpectedly ended up in Art Administration. As a result of that, she spent almost fifty years investigating and presenting all sorts of artwork (some of it hers) and was able to interact with a wide variety of artists. This helped her find new avenues to explore and advance her own work. To all those artists (and some great teachers) she is forever indebted.
Nancy is currently the Curator and Education Coordinator at Alleghany Highlands Arts and Craft Center in Clifton Forge VA. Prior to her current position there she was the Executive Director, and before being at AHACC she was Director of the Fine Arts Center in the New River Valley, in Pulaski VA. Her professional affiliations include: Virginia Commission for the Arts Panelist, (General Operating, Artists Residency); Virginia Association of Museums (Council, Conference presenter and member), and Assorted Civic Arts Projects-Pulaski, Radford, and Clifton Forge.
Nancy has exhibited widely in juried, invitational and in outdoor exhibitions and received numerous awards for her artwork.
