We introduce our 2020 National Juried Exhibition Best in Show Winner Donald Sunshine as he returns to the Bower Center to display his journey through art in this retrospective exhibition.
Meet Donald Sunshine
I guess at age 89 it’s okay to do a retrospective. Thus, as I consider my art over these many years, indeed all of my life, I realize that this has been, for me, a wonderful opportunity of discovery. Discovery through search and experiment to which the work, I believe attests.
Accordingly, I would urge you to view this exhibit with the foregoing intention in mind. Further the exhibit is organized based on three directions for my work – impressionist watercolors, art as commentary, and non-objective works.
This is where I’m supposed to list all my accomplishments and awards. Being the first in my family to graduate from high school, and in spite of my misspent youth, I somehow went on to higher education. Suffice to say, I have been a professor at four universities with all that required, including a six-month travel/study fellowship, publishing, and designing award winning architecture, etc.
While pursuing art all my life, I have been blessed with the opportunity to focus on my art since 1999 when I became Professor Emeritus of Architecture, Virginia Tech. I was a professor there for 25 years. My art has been nationally exhibited from Virginia to Hawaii to Florida including Chicago’s Art Institute. Also, I received Best in Show from a previous Bower Center for the Arts National Juried Exhibit which has resulted in this exhibit.
