We're shedding a spotlight on the incredible artists who call Bower Center for The Arts their studio home! Our 3rd floor is home to working studios of local artists covering many disciplines from painting with oils, watercolors, acrylics, to mosaics, installation art, photography, stained glass, sculpture, torn paper collage, pottery, and more.
Today we're spotlighting one of those wonderful artists, Susan Miller Bradbury.
Susan Miller Bradbury, a fine art and portraiture artist, is a full time working artist and has had her artwork in several books as well as many top galleries up and down the East Coast. She has exhibited in many national juried events and has won Best in Show at several art events in the recent past. She has exhibited a solo event at the Bower Center and has been a featured artist at the The Gallery at 122 Main, Elkton, Maryland, Art Speaks gallery in Mathews, VA and Carolina Creations in New Bern, North Carolina. Other representation are the Little Gallery, LinDor Gallery, and Black Dog Salvage in Roanoke, VA.
She enjoys capturing the events of life and especially appreciates taking her memories captive and placing them on the canvas. Her love and inspiration for art came from her mother, Elizabeth Miller, who was a fabulous and well known watercolor artist. Susan’s unique style shows through her utilization of provocative lighting and/or expressive situations to capture the viewer’s heart with the use of acrylics and oils.
Susan graduated from Radford University with a BA in Graphic Arts as well as a minor in French. Later in life, she rediscovered a love for painting and went on to take classes from many well-known instructors such as Daniel Greene, Paul McCormack, Vera Dickerson, Lee Boynton and is currently studying under Stephen Bauman, Daniel Gearhart, Heather Sink and Jennifer Gennari. She has illustrated several published books and has won many awards for her art.
Enjoy this video interview with Susan as she speaks about her journey as an artist, her creative process, and the love that she puts into every single piece she creates! Make plans to stop by our 3rd floor and see her studio and art on display and for purchase.
